Frequently asked questions
Is AT difficult to learn?
Not at all, there are six very simple mental exercises and you’ll learn just one each week, so that you don’t have too much to take in at one time.
Do I have to wear special clothing or practise in a specific environment?
Absolutely not, at first its useful to practise in as quiet environment as possible so that you are not distracted, but the beauty of AT is that once you’ve learnt the technique you’ll be able to practise almost anywhere.
I have a lot of stress in my life and very little time, is AT really going to make a difference?
AT will enable you to respond differently to the stressors around you which in turn will reduce your anxiety levels. Clients often report a greater feeling of calm and control over what has previously caused them stress. There are also several different exercises that you’ll be able to use even when you feel you have virtually no spare time.
How much time will I need to spend practising?
Ideally two to three times a day, it only takes a few minutes at a time.
I may not be able to come to sessions regularly every week, is this a problem?
If you’ll be away for a short while, I can usually adapt the training to take that into account.
What is the difference between AT and meditation?
AT has been known as a Western form of meditation, and indeed there are similarities to other practices in the profound levels of relaxation that can be attained, however the technique was developed from a scientific basis and as such is perhaps more accessible to a Western mind.
